Oh honey, let me tell you about this absolutely divine Latin treat that’s been passed down through generations – Pastelitos de Guayaba y Queso (Guava and Cheese Pastries). Trust me, once you try these little bites of heaven, you’ll be dancing salsa in your kitchen!

My abuela taught me this recipe, and I’ve added my own little twist to make it even more irresistible. These flaky, sweet-and-savory pastries are perfect for those lazy Sunday afternoons when you want to impress your friends without spending hours in the kitchen.

What You’ll Need (serves 8):
– 1 package puff pastry (thawed)
– 8 oz guava paste
– 8 oz cream cheese
– 1 egg (for egg wash)
– A sprinkle of sugar for that extra sparkle ✨
– And most importantly, your sassiest attitude!

Let’s Get Cooking, Beautiful People!

1. First things first – preheat that oven to 400°F (200°C). We want it hot, just like a Miami summer!

1. Roll out your puff pastry on a floured surface. Cut it into 3-inch squares (or whatever size you want, I’m not the pastry police 💁‍♀️).

1. Here’s where the magic happens: cut your guava paste and cream cheese into small rectangles. Place them in the center of each square like they’re on a tiny tropical vacation.

1. Fold those corners over diagonally to make triangles, and seal the edges with a fork. Make them cute – these babies are going on Instagram!

1. Beat that egg like it owes you money and brush it over the pastries. Sprinkle some sugar on top for that extra pizzazz.

1. Pop these beauties in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and flaky.

Pro tip: Let them cool for 5 minutes before diving in – I know it’s hard, but burnt tongues aren’t cute!

The result? Crispy, flaky pastries filled with warm, gooey guava and cream cheese that’ll transport you straight to abuela’s kitchen. Serve them with café con leche, and watch your family fight over the last one (it happens in my house EVERY time 😂).

Y’all, I can’t even tell you how many marriage proposals I’ve gotten thanks to these pastelitos! They’re that good!
