_Sips coffee and gets ready to share my absolute favorite Latin treat_
Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the most heavenly Tres Leches Cake you’ll ever taste! Trust me, this isn’t your average dessert – it’s the kind that’ll make your taste buds dance salsa and have your family begging for seconds.
I discovered this recipe during my trip to Mexico City last summer, and honey, let me tell you – I’ve been obsessed ever since! The best part? You don’t need to be a masterchef to nail this one.
Here’s what you’ll need (and no cheating with store-bought substitutes, okay? 😉):
For the cake:
– 1½ cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– ½ cup unsalted butter
– 1 cup white sugar
– 5 eggs
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the tres leches mixture (this is where the magic happens!):
– 1 can evaporated milk
– 1 can sweetened condensed milk
– 1 cup heavy cream
– A pinch of cinnamon (my secret ingredient!)
For the topping:
– 2 cups heavy whipping cream
– 3 tablespoons sugar
– Fresh berries for garnish
Now, let’s get cooking! (BTW, if you’re loving this recipe already, make sure to follow me on Newsbreak for more mouthwatering recipes that’ll make you the star of any gathering!)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter and flour a 9×13 inch baking dish.
2. Separate the eggs (yes, all five of them – I know it’s tedious, but trust your girl on this one).
3. Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes, or longer if you’re working out some frustrations 💪).
4. Add egg yolks one at a time, then vanilla.
5. Mix in the flour and baking powder.
6. In a separate bowl, beat those egg whites until stiff peaks form (if your arm gets tired, just think of it as your workout for the day!).
7. Fold egg whites into the batter gently – we’re making cake, not doing CrossFit here.
8. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
While the cake is cooling, mix your three milks together with that pinch of cinnamon. Once the cake is completely cool (patience, darling!), poke holes all over it with a fork and slowly pour the milk mixture over it. Let it soak for at least 2 hours – perfect time to catch up on your favorite telenovela!
Finally, whip up that cream with sugar until stiff peaks form, spread it over the cake, and garnish with berries. Voilà! You’ve just created pure bliss in a pan!
Y’all, I can’t even begin to tell you how many marriage proposals I’ve gotten thanks to this recipe (kidding… sort of 😉). If you’re loving this taste of Latin heaven, don’t forget to follow me on Newsbreak for more recipes that’ll make your kitchen the hottest spot in town!
